Electric vans stage debut on Aston Barclay’s latest LCV go-to list

Electric vans now feature in Aston Barclay's Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) desirability index, reflecting their growing appeal in the used vehicle market.

The Ford e-Transit topped the September list, while the Maxus eDeliver 5 secured eighth place, as electric vans are increasingly viewed as good value for operators, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Ford dominated the index, with five models in the top 15, including four vans and one pickup. Notably, the Toyota HiLux was ranked second, making it the highest-rated pickup. Medium and large panel vans were well represented in the table, while four pickups also made the cut.

The variety in used LCV stock remains broad, with buyers focusing on value rather than the latest trends or brands.

Aston Barclay reported that demand and prices for used LCVs have returned to pre-pandemic levels in August and September, spurring SMEs to replace or expand their fleets.

“The used LCV market sprang into life this summer, traditionally a quieter period, bringing confidence back to the market,” said Nick Thompson, Aston Barclay’s chief customer officer. “There’s strong competition for LCVs, with many buyers purchasing in bulk.”

Thompson also noted the emergence of electric vans in the index. “Electric vans are now seen as great value for operators, especially those working in lower-mileage, back-to-base environments,” he added.

Aston Barclay’s desirability index ranks vehicles based on web views prior to sale, the number of bids received both online and in person, and the sale price relative to the CAP average.
