Car salesman Christopher Michael was caught after he pinched £2,200 from the Cardiff Ford dealership where he worked.
Michael, of Cwrt Bevan, Merthyr Tydfil, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court last week for theft and fraud charges after he "dishonestly abused his position" at the Fordthorne Motor Park car dealer between February and July 2017 for financial gain.
Judge Twomlow sentenced Michael to serve a 12-month community order and to complete 150 hours of unpaid community work, reported the South Wales Echo and Wales Online.
Michael was also ordered to pay an £85 victim surcharge and £400 court costs.
