Emergency services had to be called when a potential buyer's test-drive of a dealership's Fiat Punto was wrecked by a falling tree during Storm Bert.

The customer escaped unscathed, although the car was not so fortunate, as it finished up running off the road with damage to its front and wings and had to be recovered.

When the tree fell onto the road immediately in front of the Fiat, which was being offered for sale by Bunny Motors near Horsham, West Sussex, driver Warren Bell had to swerve off the road to avoid the potentially fatal collision.

The tree only scraped the car as a result of his quick reactions.

Fiat specialist Bunny Motors owner Paul Chinnery told local journalists at The Argus: “I’m so relieved they came out unscathed, it could have been so totally different."

The road was closed by police for several hours while debris was cleared.

Bell said he would be going back to the dealership to buy his next car.
