Genesis has revealed the specifications for its second electric model to be offered in the UK, the GV60, before sales commence next year.
The new compact crossover is based on the same platform as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, which is designed specifically for electric models.
It will sit beneath the GV70 and GV80 SUV’s in the brand’s line-up. The GV60 has been given a coupe-like side profile, with a raked rear end.
Three models will be offered: one rear-wheel-drive and two all-wheel-drive. Each will feature a 77.4kWh battery, providing a range of up to 280 miles.
The rear-wheel-drive version will use a 228PS electric motor, while the all-wheel-drive will use two motors for a combined output of 318PS.
A performance model, which also uses two motors, develops 435PS and provides a range of up to 228 miles.
The GV60 will feature a Boost Mode button on the steering wheel, which activates additional performance for 10 seconds. This will provide a 0-62mph acceleration time of four seconds for the Performance model.
An electric-Active Sound Design (e-ASD) system provides various virtual driving sounds through the speakers based on the driving mode, the vehicle’s speed, and accelerator pedal data. There is also Road Active Noise Control (ANC-R) technology to minimise noise and uses various sound-absorbing materials to achieve silence while driving.
Charging speeds of up to 350kW can be achieved, boosting the battery level from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes.
The car is equipped with digital side mirrors and auto-flush outside door handles, giving a smoother appearance.
Inside, the GV60 has a sphere-shaped electronic transmission control called Crystal Sphere. Genesis says it intuitively informs the driver of oncoming driving conditions. It is also fitted with mood lights, which illuminate when the vehicle is off.
Dominique Boesch, managing director of Genesis Motor Europe, said: “When we launched in Europe, we committed to bringing three electric cars to the region within our first year; we are proud to confirm the GV60 will be our second electric car for Europe, following soon after the launch of the electrified G80.
“The GV60, Genesis' first on a dedicated electric platform, will provide a totally new experience as a luxury electric vehicle based on our unique brand identity and will also benefit from our unique customer focused offering where service come before sales."
Genesis UK managing director Andrew Pilkington told AM in a recent interview that the company is determined to pursue a “crawl, walk, run approach” which gauges public response to determine the rate of growth, however – insisting it has no volume targets.
The car maker started its "product launch fantasy" in the UK in May.
Full specifications, including European pricing for the GV60 will be released in due course.
