Bowker prepares for growth with record number of apprentices

More than 20 apprentices across Bowker Motor Group’s dealerships in Blackburn, Bolton, and Preston are celebrating a record-breaking milestone, marking the highest total number of apprenticeships in the Lancashire dealership’s 40-year history.

Bowker has significantly expanded its apprenticeship programme across multiple roles, including technical, sales, and parts operations, reinforcing its commitment to developing the next generation of automotive professionals.

This achievement coincides with National Apprenticeship Week 2025, running from 10-16 February. The annual event highlights the importance of apprenticeships in equipping individuals with essential skills while supporting business growth. This year’s theme, ‘Skills for Life,’ focusses on the long-term benefits of vocational training for both apprentices and employers.

Stewart Rose, BMW service manager at Bowker Motor Group, who began his own career as an apprentice more than 30 years ago, said: “We’re proud to invest in the next generation of automotive professionals. Apprenticeships offer young people an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience while earning qualifications, and it’s great to see so many apprentices thriving across our business.”

Bowker Motor Group, whose name has been associated with automotive retail since 1984, currently operates seven dealerships, including the recently acquired Porsche Centre Bolton.

The group’s apprenticeships involve partnerships with national automotive bodies, local schools, and colleges, including the BMW Training Academy. Many apprentices progress into full-time roles within the company, contributing to Bowker’s continued growth.

Alfie Ball, a parts apprentice at Bowker BMW in Preston, commenting on his experience, said: “The apprenticeship has been a brilliant experience so far. Learning on the job with a supportive team has really helped me grow in confidence, and I’m excited about the opportunities ahead.”
