Training provider Skillnet has appointed Andy Palmer, former director of education and skills at British Telecom, as the company’s new managing director.
He is also a non-executive board member for Ofsted. Prior to his role at BT, Palmer was chief operating officer for e-Skills UK, the sector skills council for business and information technology.
Palmer said: “My role will be to ensure that we are continuing to deliver an exceptional service to our existing customer base, whilst also looking at new areas for growth within the business.”
Skillnet, based in Watford with training centres nationwide, is the UK’s largest automotive training provider and currently employs more than 100 people.
Skillnet manages 2,000 learners on national apprenticeship programmes for Ford Motor Company, DAF Trucks and Scania GB, as well as 2,000 learners for independent garages and dealerships.
Skillnet offers apprenticeships in 12 different disciplines within the motor industry, including light and heavy vehicle and motorcycle technicians, and automotive sales, customer service and business administration roles.
