Nissan has teamed up with leading European utility and electrical vehicle supply equipment companies to speed development of cheaper, smaller, quick chargers for electric vehicle batteries across Europe.
The agreement between Nissan, Circutor, DBT, Efacec, Endesa and Siemens is expected to reduce the cost of installing a quick charge unit by 50% to under €10,000 (£8,716).
Quick charge stations allow an electric car’s battery to be charged to 80% capacity in less than 30 minutes.
Nissan is expecting that the partnership will be able to install thousands of QC points in Europe before the end of next year and tens of thousands by 2015.
