A radio advert for promotions at Eden Vauxhall in Reading has been ruled likely to mislead consumers.

The commercial stated up to £7,000 off list for 58-plate Astras and up to £6,800 off list for 58-plate Astras and ended by stating "savings quoted included Ecoflex, Partners Discount and finance deposit allowance".

The Advertising Standards Authority investigated after a consumer complained he was told he was not eligible for a discount when he attempted to buy a car at the discounted price stated on the windscreen.

The ASA noted that customers could achieve such discounts if they had a part-exchange, took finance and worked for one of 50 companies in the Partners Discount scheme.

But it considered the condition of working at one of 50 companies would lead relatively few listeners to be eligible for the Partners Discount although the advert implied that the savings would be available to all or most listeners.

The ASA has told Eden not to repeat the advert as it was likely to mislead.
