A complaint about radio advertising for workshop group In 'n' Out has been thrown out by the Advertising Standards Authority.
The complaint centred around a radio campaign which stated that "for a lot of garages, MOT stands for one thing - money on top", whereas In 'n' Out 's Express MOT service fixed minor failures such as a faulty bulb or wiper for free.
A listener challenged whether the advert denigrated other garages and encouraged them to work unethically.
Unnecessary work
The ASA, after discussions with In 'n' Out, rejected the complaint.
It ruled that as the advert had not named competitors nor stated that most or all workshops would charge for unnecessary work, it did not imply that MOT testers were generally unethical.
