Footballer Wayne Rooney has signed a two-year deal with Mercedes-Benz to be an ambassador for its brand.

Rooney will be able to use any of the brand's models, and can call on a chauffeur-driven Mercedes to drive him to public engagements.

The Manchester United playet has already taken delivery of a CL63 AMG.

He is expected to feature in some of Mercedes' advertising in the future.

However the appointment has been a discussion point among marketing experts, some of whom question whether Rooney's image fits the aspirational, elegant image of Mercedes-Benz.
