In a recent case (Sharma and others v Manchester City Council) Miss Sharma with colleagues had their hours of work reduced by the Manchester Adult Education Service as a cost saving exercise.

The matter had been handled in a less favourable way than for full time workers.

The employer argued that there were other reasons for the way the policy had been applied.

The case decided that even if being a part time worker is just one reason of several then it can amount to discrimination.
