UK car production dropped by 7.9% to 127,064 units in March, but was 11.6% up year-to-date to 421,531 units.
Paul Everitt, Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders chief executive, said: "UK automotive manufacturing is in good health with strong model line-ups and a highly productive and skilled work force.
"The success of UK manufacturing provides important balance to the economy and helps to underpin core service sectors."
