PSA Peugeot Citroen has decided to stop discussions with Proton over a possible collaboration.

The talks started in September and focused on a possible cooperative venture to support the development of Peugeot and Citroen in Malaysia and to serve as a production base for the marques’ sales operations in the ASEAN region (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Loas, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam).

PSA said it had conducted an in-depth study about producing vehicles with Proton and concluded that ‘the conditions for the project’s success were not present’.
