Experian has added environmental reporting to its AutoCheck service for dealers, which will allow them to offer customers the same environmental information that is featured on all new cars.

The new feature allows dealers to look up CO2 emission data on a used vehicles and factor in the vehicle excise duty (VED) payable on a used vehicle over a period of either six or 12 months.

Used car dealers will be able to display the same information for their customers as new car dealers currently do for their customers.

Kirk Fletcher, managing director of Experian’s Automotive division, said: "New car dealers are required by law to display the CO2 emission and Vehicle Excise Duty information on all their new stock.

"Customers are much more aware of the effect these factors have on the environment and their pockets, so they are asking more questions. As a result, a number of our used car dealers have expressed a desire for this information so that they can display it on their used stock."
