Dealership managers have a unique opportunity to get an injection of fresh thinking, plus some 'quick wins' they can take away to start boosting profits immediately – at autoretailing 06.

The convention includes a special programme of management workshops designed to equip the industry's executives with the tools and techniques they need to develop their careers and their businesses. There is no other event like it in the marketplace.

autoretailing 06 takes place on June 7 and 8 at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham. Brought to the industry by AM magazine and the Retail Motor Industry Federation, it is dedicated to helping pro-active motor retailers become even more successful.

Each 50-minute dealer management workshop is designed to give motor dealers the practical tools they need to make their dealerships and groups more successful. Expert workshop presenters will share best practice and offer clear, impartial guidelines for dealing with some of the major challenges that AM readers tell us they face every day.

The programme, on June 8, includes:

  • Improve your financial monitoring – James Mullins, manager, Grant Thornton Automotive Services
Mullins will offer some tips and tools aimed at improving your financial monitoring, a key step change in today's ever-demanding competitive environment. Looking beyond the traditional P&L account crammed with ratios and percentages, he will explain how to focus on operational and working capital monitoring in harmony for ultimate gain.

  • Leadership and change: creating a performance-based culture in your dealership – Clive Eaton, director, Copernicus Solutions
Eaton's workshop will help business leaders to create a more performance-oriented culture in their organisations, by pinpointing the key measurable areas that really make a difference. Discover what the most successful groups focus on to improve their CSI, staff retention and that all-important return on investment.

  • Recruiting, developing and retaining the best people – Tim Bryant, learning solutions specialist, rts consultants
Bryant will show you how the top motor retailers attract the best people, the techniques they use to develop their best people even further, and what they do to ensure their top talent stays with the company. He will also include a Recruitment and Retention Checklist to take away.

  • Strategies and tactics for retaining more customers – Paul Turner, managing director, Alchemy Performance Development
Turner's workshop will give dealership managers the knowledge they need to start improving customer satisfaction and retention by conducting some simple yet revealing measurements. How to identify the critical 'touch points' that affect customer retention, and ensure that your business can exceed your customers' expectations.

  • Working with the FSA regulations – D Smee, Financial Services Authority
Hear first hand from the FSA about the latest developments affecting motor dealers' ability to sell insurance products – and get answers to the questions you ask.

Other workshops covering key areas of sales and aftersales management will run throughout the day as well. Delegates can choose which workshops they want to attend, across all three disciplines, and in effect build their own management training programme for the day.

autoretailing 06 is a unique opportunity to get an injection of fresh strategic thinking, plus some 'quick wins' you can take away and apply in your own business to start selling more cars, retaining more customers and increasing profitability immediately.

Speakers at the conference that opens the convention on June 7 include Vauxhall chairman Jonathan Browning; Lyell Strambi, the boss of Virgin Atlantic Airways, giving a perspective from outside the industry; and the Rt Hon Alistair Darling MP. David Martin, one of the USA's top car sales training gurus and an inspirational presenter, will be speaking as well. The conference is chaired by Declan Curry, Business Presenter for 'Breakfast' on BBC One and BBC News 24.

Two-day tickets to autoretailing 06 are transferable between colleagues in the same organisation. For full details, see the website at www.autoretailing.co.uk.
