Chatham Hyundai retailer Morris Forshaw says it is facing possible closure as a result of a new road system.

Described as “an absolute nightmare” by sales manager Chris Forshaw, the local council’s decision to change Medway Street from one-way to two-way is having adverse affects on the retailers’ business, as there is no longer direct access to the site.

Forshaw says: “We were 42% down last month compared to the previous year, and to be honest, this month’s not looking much better. It’s a joke. The council’s decision was made with no discussion and its affecting many of the businesses along the street.”

A spokesman for Medway Council says: “We take traders’ views on board and our plans remain open to review.”

In 2001, Morris Forshaw was awarded the Hyundai franchise for the Maidstone area, trading as Maidstone Hyundai. In 2005 the it was appointed Daihatsu dealer for Medway and Maidstone.
