Peter Vardy Ltd is implementing a new learning and development scheme across its dealerships in a bid to attract and train the best people in the industry.

Devised by Anita Douglas, human resources manager at Peter Vardy, the Accelerator Programme aims to place equal value on employees’ performance, their behaviour at work and their desire to learn, and to reward with a range of flexible benefits.

Douglas says: “We know our people are what differentiate us and give us our competitive edge.

We are fully committed to giving everyone the opportunity to learn and develop, and the scheme also demonstrates how we will reward people for being committed to growing with us.”

Under the new programme, every job has been divided into three-tiers of bronze, silver and gold. “When an employee gets to the gold level they can then choose to train for the next job they want to move on to,” says chief executive Peter Vardy. “This makes it easier for people to move around within the company and also helps us plan every individual’s career path.”

Employees will undergo two appraisals annually and have one training day every month.

Vardy says: “If they then put into practice what they have learned they will receive a reward of their choice. Our commitment to our existing and future staff through the Accelerator Programme shows that we are a growing business that will expand in the future.”
