Dixon Motors has become the UK’s most popular car retail website with over one million car buyers searching to find their next car on www.dixonmotors.co.uk this year.

Independent online data monitor Hitwise says that more than 250,000 people are now using the site to find their new car every month, marking a 62% increase on the previous six months.

The Dixons' site topped Hitwise's analysis of web traffic for June and July.

Dixons has also increased web-generated car sales by 600% in the last six months.

Earlier this year Dixon undertook a complete redesign of its website in response to a research project on how today’s car buyers are sourcing cars and the best deals available to them. The new Dixon site includes listings of over 6,000 new and used cars from the retailer’s 60-strong dealership network.

Neil Addley, marketing director for Dixon Motors, said: "We know from research that car buyers want sites that are quick and easy to use, have up to the minute information on availability and are clear on prices. We’ve worked hard to ensure our site delivers this and it’s gone from strength to strength ever since, becoming ever more popular and delivering more and more sales for the business."

The website of dealer group Perrys (www.perrys.co.uk), however, has received the highest number of visits of all automotive dealership sites consistently for the last three months, according to Hitwise. As a result, Perrys has been awarded the Hitwise No1 website award the second quarter of 2005. During the same period, the Perrys' site ranked number seven across the entire automotive sector, which takes into account manufacturer websites.
