Mercedes-Benz is using a new concept vehicle to examine the potential of bionics for automobile development.

The Mercedes-Benz concept car, based on a boxfish, made its world premiere at this year’s DaimlerChrysler Innovation Symposium in Washington.

Using the form of the boxfish, engineers were able to considerably reduce drag.

Mercedes says: “In addition to the streamline aerodynamics and a lightweight construction, a 140bhp diesel engine and SCR technology (Selective Catalytic Reduction) contribute to fuel economy of 65.7mpg.”
