Workers at Vauxhall have voted to strike in a dispute over pay.

Members of the Transport and General Workers Union at Vauxhall's main UK car factory in Ellesmere Port supported the walkouts by 75%.

The turnout was 68% - high for a union ballot.

The TGWU said workers were unhappy with a number of elements in a two-year pay offer. The pay offer was worth 3% in the first year and the rate of inflation in year two.

TGWU regional officer, Mick Whitley, says: "The package is clearly unacceptable to our members as the strength of this vote shows. We will now inform the company of the ballot result and seek a meeting to give it an opportunity to improve the offer."

A company spokesman said: "We are extremely disappointed at the outcome of the vote and will hold further talks with the union about the way forward."

About 3,000 workers are employed at Ellesmere Port.
