Toyota is to invest around £1bn to upgrade its supply chain. The company is already noted for its 'just in time' parts procurement system.

The new network, which is expected to boost Toyota's cost competitiveness, will centrally manage information on car development, production and parts procurement handled at 60 manufacturing bases in 27 regions.

It gives Toyota access to information on 1500 major suppliers worldwide.
