Component supplier Robert Bosch GmbH is predicting significant growth in demand for radio-based vehicle navigation following the launch of a new low-cost system.

To be priced at £599 when it becomes available as afterfit equipment at the end of the year, the Blaupunkt Travel- Pilot E1 is poised to play a leading role in doubling the European market to more than three million units by 2006.

The number of components used in the E1 unit totals 1170, compared with 1950 five years ago. The simplified system also offers higher performance and will recommend a 'best route' as well as fastest and shortest.
