Andy Carroll has been confirmed as designated managing director of the new GM Daewoo Auto and Technology (GM DAT) UK, due to be fully operational by the fourth quarter.
Carroll, previously chief operating officer of internet-based car supplier OneSwoop, will be responsible for establishing the new import and distribution organisation. He faces an immediate challenge to retain existing Daewoo customers and attract new buyers after the company's tumultuous 12 months.
Insiders say GM has abandoned plans for Daewoo to bring the SsangYong Rexton to the UK. Daewoo was hoping to launch the £22,000 4x4 in September, followed by an MPV in 2004 and a Musso replacement a year later. All have been put on hold.
Meanwhile, GM DAT has released details of the all-new Kalos, a compact 1.4-litre five-door designed to appeal to younger drivers and which goes on sale later this year.
