The Mercedes CLK and BMW 3-series coupe are far rarer than the saloons on which they're based, but they still attract a high level of interest from buyers. Cars with leather trim, climate control and metallic are most sought after.

Despite a new range just arriving, high spec CLK models have been attracting premium prices; depreciation is slow even on the oldest P-plate cars. CLK starts at around £22,000 for a 200 Elegance on 99V with 23,000 miles; an 8000-mile 01Y CLK 430 Avantgarde is £35,000. A 99T 318Ci with 23,000 miles is around £19,000, while a 17,000-mile 01Y 330Ci commands about £35,000 at a dealer.

Both CLK and 3-series are fairly rare away from main dealers, who have the best choice of cars and but ask £1000s more for warranted cars.
