Kia Cars' UK registrations rose a record 80% last year, in a market up 1%, on the back on new products and an agressive pricing policy.

Mark Quinn, Kia Cars UK managing director, said the results in 2000 followed a record performance the previous year. Sales reached 11,523 units, taking a 0.52 share of the market, compared to 6,385 in 1999, a 0.29% share.

"Achieving two record years in a row pays testimony to the strength of the Kia product proposition in what is a keenly fought market pre-occupied with getting best value for money," said Mr Quinn.

He attributes the success on new products like the Shuma 5dr hatchback, Sportage 4x4 and Sedona MPV. Offers like 0% finance on the Shuma until the end of March are expected to continue the strong performance this year.
