Tata plans to “strengthen” its UK dealer network to prepare for the Indicar hatchback launch early next year. The Indian car company will add 30 more dealerships by December, taking the total number of franchised outlets to 80.

Ian Maggs, national sales manager, said the company was targeting family owned dealerships who were well respected in their local areas. Former Skoda and Rover dealers are among those showing an interest in the franchise.”

The Indicar will be Tata's volume product - it has sold more than 60,000 units since launch in India earlier this year. In the meantime, Tata dealers plan to sell around 1,000 Safari off-roaders this year.

The Tata UK franchise is now held by Motor Vehicle Industriel.
