Pendragon has raised the salaries of its technicians as part of a wider program to retain talented team members and attract 300 new workshop employees amid a push to grow aftersales revenues.

Earlier this week the AM100’s second-placed group, which includes retailers Stratstone and Evans Halshaw, reported that its growth in H1 of 2017 had been underpinned by used car sales and aftersales as new car sales revenues fell by 5.8%.

And as the PLC operation bids to recruit 300 new technicians to continue on an upward trajectory it has increased their basic salary package at all levels across the business.

The business would not reveal the scale of the salary increase, but Andrew Waggott, group aftersales director at Pendragon, said: “Our technicians work incredibly hard to ensure we continue to provide excellent service and convenience for our customers and this pay increase is an acknowledgment of that.

“We’ve listened to feedback from our team members and we’re working to improve facilities across our retail centres to ensure Pendragon is a great place to work for all with state-of-the-art equipment.”

Waggott added: “We will be continuing to assess benefits and rewards for all team members across the company.”

As part of the company’s response to feedback, all new team members – including technicians – now attend a company induction at Pendragon’s dedicated training academy in Mansfield.

The induction gives new starters a greater understanding of the wider business and the company’s direction.
