Qoros, the new Chinese-based carmaker, has scored five stars in the Euro NCAP safety test for its C-segment 3 model.

The result will help dispel fears from consumers that the safety and build quality on a Chinese car would be inferior to a European product.

AM spoke to Daniel Backman, Qoros product stategy director, at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and he said a decision to enter the UK market was still under consideration.

The timeline for launching into other European countries is not yet definitive, but distribution has started in a small scale in Slovakia. Sales will start in China by the end of this year.

Qoros has brands like Volkswagen, Ford, Skoda and Kia in its sights as competitors.

Volker Steinwascher, vice Chairman of Qoros, said: “The safety of our vehicles was one of our key development goals from the start.

"It’s a crucial demonstration that our customers are the most important consideration and it also says a great deal about the engineering integrity of the car as a whole."

The Qoros 3 saloon has ISOFIX points,  ABS (Antilock Braking System), ESP (Dynamic Stability Control / Electronic Stability Program), EBA (Electronic Brake Assist), Braking Control System , seat belt reminders for all occupants and a driver-set speed limiting device as standard.

Qoros 3 Euro NCAP test results:

  • Adult Occupant: 95%
  • Child Occupant: 87%
  • Pedestrian: 77%
  • Safety Assistance Systems:  81%
  • Overall result: 88% = Five stars
