Benfield Motor Group is the highest placed privately owned car dealer in the latest Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250.

The group was in 16th position overall in the table which ranks companies by sales in their latest available accounts. Benfield posted sales of £540m in the year to December 2012.

The motor retail industry was well represented within the Sunday Times list, with 33 car dealers in the table. Both Ridgeway Group and Perrys placed within the top 40 companies in the list.

The league table complements the Sunday Times Top Track 100 league table of Britain’s private companies with the biggest sales, listing the next 250 biggest companies, provided either sales or operating profits have increased by at least 10% from the penultimate to their latest financial year.

Benfield has 34 retail outlets throughout the North East of England, Yorkshire, Cumbria and South West Scotland across a portfolio 16 car retail brands.
