More than 20,000 US General Motors workers have accepted voluntary redundancy or early retirement.

GM had offered voluntary severance terms to all 113,000 of its US hourly-paid workers.

Under a GM-UAW agreement there is no limit to the number of voluntary retirements that GM can accept.
