Ford topped the chart for the most preregistrations in December, for the second month running, according to figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

The total number of cars preregistered in the month dropped dramatically from 339 in November to 65.

Of this number Ford accounted for 21 (November: 202), second was Toyota with 17 (32), third Vauxhall 14 (3), Citroen 9 (7) and Hyundai 2 (2), Suzuki 1 (35) and Volkswagen 1 (0).

The other 13 manufacturers listed by the SMMT had no preregistrations. Total gross revenue from December's total is £666,970.52.

December was the third month in which, under the Supply of New Cars Order 2000, manufacturers have to publish the number of preregistered cars supplied and the gross income suppliers receive from selling the vehicles.
