The Splash has split opinions at AM. Some complain it’s a noisy, buzzy little car, while others in the team think it’s a fresh, fun machine.

What is agreed though, is that the Splash is most competent in the suburbs and city streets for which it was designed.

Its expanse of glass and high-seating position make it easy to manoeuvre, and the 1.2-litre engine with 86bhp is nippy enough, although it needs to be worked hard on motorways.

Buyers may be driven mad by the annoying bleeping of the indicator at every use, however.

And the dash-mounted rev counter added to the GLS+ spec looks like a nasty afterthought.

But the Splash is good value – Suzuki claims 51.4mpg average combined fuel economy and 131g/km CO2 emissions.
