BYD breaks sales record with 9,271 cars sold in Q1, boosting market share to 1.6%

BYD has shattered its UK sales record, selling an impressive 9,271 cars in the first quarter of 2025.

The achievement not only marks BYD UK’s most successful quarter since it launched passenger cars in March 2023, but also surpasses the company’s total sales for the entirety of 2024.

The sales surge has propelled BYD’s UK market share to 1.6%, a significant leap from 0.45% in 2024. In March alone, the company achieved a market share of 1.8%, exactly two years after introducing its passenger vehicles to the UK.

The standout performers in BYD’s Q1 success were the Seal U DM-i and the Seal. The Seal U DM-i led the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) segment, while the Seal secured a place as the seventh best-selling model in the pure electric category. The company registered 3,975 units of the Seal U DM-i and 2,521 units of the Seal.

The Sealion 7, a new addition to BYD’s lineup, joined the range in March and is already gaining traction with customers. Built on BYD’s e-platform 3.0 and featuring the brand’s innovative Blade Battery, the Sealion 7 combines sporty performance with stylish SUV design, advanced technology, and a spacious, well-crafted interior. With an all-electric range of up to 312 miles, the Sealion 7 further strengthens BYD’s position in the UK market.

The sales performance has been saluted by AM100 dealer group City West Country whose sales at its at BYD South West dealership constituted 40% of all UK fleet sales.

“Our knowledgeable sales teams are dedicated to BYD’s sustainability ethos alongside stellar customer service. BYD South West opened their flagship showroom in Exeter in 2023, the success of which allowed for the swift opening of BYD Plymouth, BYD Taunton, and BYD Truro in 2024, allowing for dedicated service across all points of the south west,” it said.

“The start of 2025 saw BYD Plymouth moving to a bigger showroom to continue boosting their success, with future growth for BYD South West in the works.”
