Martyn Webb has stepped away from the managing director position at Holden Group as Tim Holden has returned to lead the family business.

Webb, the former LSH Auto UK boss, had been appointed in April 2023 to help lead a strategic review of the group that included reducing costs and ensuring long-term sustainability for the business, reflecting the evolving challenges of rising costs and changes in the marketplace.

The group said Webb departs the business "after a successful tenure, during which he played a key role in driving operational improvements and transformational initiatives".

Holden, who previously led the business for many years, returns "fully energised and relishing the challenges ahead".

He said: "It has been invaluable to have the opportunity to step back, reflect on the lessons from my previous tenure, and observe a different leadership approach.

"It feels fantastic to be back, and I am fully confident that we will continue to drive the business forward.

“As with much in life, it’s all about timing.

"Unfortunately, we introduced various costs into the business just as the market began to shift.

"Following our review, we are now in a better position to navigate the further challenges ahead - such as increased National Insurance contributions and Minimum Wage rises - and to benefit from the investments made over the past 18 months."

Holden also expressed his gratitude to Webb (pictuured left) for his contributions, acknowledging the lasting impact of his leadership: "Martyn has made a significant contribution to Holden Group, including the redevelopment of our Kia and Volvo showrooms, establishing a group call centre facility, improving management information reporting infrastructure, upgrading IT systems, and integrating a new HR platform.

"With a new website set to launch soon, he leaves behind a strong operational foundation on which we will now build.

“I’d like to personally thank Martyn for his support and the legacy of positive changes he has delivered. We wish him every success in his next chapter."

In an in depth interview with Automotive Management last year, Webb said costs were the biggest challenge facing Holden, as well as the wider automotive retail industry.

He told AM: "As retailers we're excellent at being able to work arouund whatever we're given.

"Whether it's electrification, or changes to the retail model. We can still excel and thrive in that environment.

"One thing you have less control over is the costs involved in running a group.

"Whether it's interest rates, IT or cybersecurity...the list goes on."
