Honda will launch two new downsized petrol engines with its 10th generation Civic when the new model goes on sale in early 2017.

The 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre VTEC TURBO engines will be part of the powertrain line-up in addition to the new 2.0-litre petrol which was launched this year in the current Civic Type R.

Five door variants of the new Civic will be built at Honda’s UK manufacturing plant (HUM) in Swindon. Honda has confirmed investment of £195 million in new production technologies and processes to prepare for the new model.

Philip Crossman, Honda UK managing director, said: “With the launch of these two new smaller turbo-charged engines, we are responding to the market demand and the rising trend for increased fuel efficiency without compromising on power.”

More details on the new engines will be revealed closer to launch in 2017.
