A New Year’s Day blaze at a BMW dealership caused damage to one vehicle and resulted in a smoke-logged showroom.

Firefighters were called to Snows BMW on Eastern Road, Portsmouth, at 10pm and discovered a vehicle ablaze in the business’ workshop, The Portsmouth News reported.

Crews worked for over three hours to get the fire under control and prevent it spreading to the nearby showroom.

One firefighter told the Portsmouth News: “The car that was on fire was completely destroyed.”

Firefighters are understood to have left the scene at around 3am.

The cause of the fire was not thought to be suspicious.

Snows BMW is part of the Snows Group which represents the BMW, Kia, Lexus, Mini, Seat, Toyota and Volvo brands from 15 outlets across Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight employing over 350 staff.
