The appointment follows CP’s acquisition of UHY Manchester LLP and its established automotive team last year, which strengthened the firm’s capabilities and commitment to the sector.

McMahon brings nearly 30 years of experience in the automotive industry, and his leadership marks a sharpened focus on delivering a comprehensive suite of services - including transaction support, tax advisory, legal services, and corporate finance  to clients across the automotive industry.

Based at CP’s Manchester Superhub, the growing automotive team will now be led by McMahon as it extends its support to businesses spanning from motor retail groups to supply chain manufacturers.

“Collaborating with clients in the motor trade has been a truly rewarding experience,” said McMahon. “Over the past 27 years, I’ve seen the sector’s incredible resilience and passion. Being appointed head of automotive at CP is a milestone moment, and I’m excited to lead the team into its next phase.”

David Kendrick, CP’s head of north and corporate finance partner, welcomed the appointment as the firm embarks on a new chapter of regional expansion.

“Our automotive specialism has gone from strength to strength - we now audit over £7 billion of retail turnover annually and are involved in 40% of automotive transactions in the UK each year,” Kendrick said.

“With my focus shifting to regional growth, Ian is perfectly positioned to lead our automotive strategy. His depth of knowledge and hands-on experience make him the ideal leader to drive us forward.”

Kendrick confirmed he will remain closely involved in the sector, particularly in transactional work, collaborating with McMahon to capitalise on the significant opportunities ahead.
