Excellent idea get the Government to fund a press campaign
We all need to support this campaign during these challenging times
A great campaign and I believe strongly that the public need to be made aware of just how good the deals are out there today. With such doom and gloom in the media everyday, we need to get some positive news out there. I have already been running adverts for a couple of months stating just 'how good a deal' there is out there. Thanks keep up the great work and let’s get the industry moving.
Actual car values are invariably higher than published guide figures. Both Glasses and CAP both undervalue many products. Cars on dealer forecourts offered at guide retail offer incredible value for money. Credit to AM for focussing on the positive opportunities currently available. The media have a responsibility to recreate consumer confidence and to vigorously emphasise the value for money on new and used cars. Versus salary levels, cars are cheaper than they were in the early 90's. Everyone is earning three to five times salary levels of this time.
Essential to get the market moving, but we have to really get the media reporting good news as well as bad. The BBC bears a big responsibility for the collapse in public confidence.
Why would anyone not support this campaign - anything we can collectively do as an industry to stimulate this market and ensure consumers understand and appreciate that there has never been a better time to buy a new or used car can only be serve to help in these troubled times.
The media has to take a lot of the responsibility for the consumers fear of spending any money and as motor dealers we need to make all our businesses a CREDIT CRUNCH FREE ZONE. Talk the trade up not down, work with local dealers to help with stock and trade disposals. Look for cheap ways to market your business. Negotiate lower advertising costs with local media.
We have locally run a positive PR piece in our local press mirroring the theme. As a business in January we have taken orders for over 120 new and used cars, actually up on January 2008!

The manufacture alone of every new car equates to circa 250K miles of its CO2 emissions. Therefore, it makes environmental sense to more fully utilise cars that have ALREADY been manufactured. We should be working towards the continuing use and upgrading of existing vehicles whilst radical alternatives are developed as rapidly as possible. It is a nonsense to try to re crank up sales/production of the very vehicles that are causing such environmental damage already.

BCA is delighted to support the 'Buy a Car campaign'. As the UK's largest vehicle remarketing company, healthy new and used car markets are critical to our business and the myriad others that service and support the car retail and wholesale sectors.
But more than that, new and used car sales combine to make a sizeable contribution to the UK's economic well-being. Thanks to this and similar campaigns, motorists are becoming increasingly aware just what good value deals are out there for them to enjoy.
