Jaguar Land Rover has welcomed government funding for technologies which will significantly reduce CO2 emissions.

The Tata-owned company is involved in a number of projects through partnerships with suppliers, government agencies and universities which will receive government investment through the Low Carbon Vehicles Innovation Platform.

Plans by Jaguar Land Rover which will benefit from the funding include those to develop a modular electric and electric/diesel powertrain, suitable for several different vehicle types and to make a lower cost, lightweight vehicle by increasing the use of aluminium scrap.

The Technology Strategy Board and the Department for Transport, through the Low Carbon Vehicles Innovation Platform, announced 16 innovative development projects in total, worth over £52 million, which will receive £23 million of government investment.
