The European Court of Justice is due to deliver its verdict on Volkswagen's appeal against the European Commission's record €102 million fine on the firm for hindering cross-border trade by its Italian dealer network on 18 September.

It is understood the court will judge whether the EC was justified in setting the fine, and whether an earlier decision by the lower European court to reduce the fine to €90 million was justified.
