Transport and General Workers' Union leaders are in talks with Goodyear management to discuss the future of the tyremaker's Wolverhampton site.

The company had announced the sale of the site in October 2002.

Says Peter Booth, the T&G's national organiser for manufacturing: “We want Goodyear to tell us very clearly what their plans are for Wolverhampton. They owe to the workforce to come clean on the future of the site.

“We have been urging them since last year to give us the real picture about what the site sale means in terms of jobs and productivity. Understandably our members have serious concerns for their long-term prospects.

“We've always believed that there's a positive future for the company in the area.”
