A £2m Croydon-based college for motor vehicle technicians officially opens its doors next Tuesday (28 October 2003). The ReMIT Centre for Technical Excellence will have 700 light vehicle technicians and electricians from across the South East of England under training at any one time. The centre will also provide training facilities for manufacturers including Daimler-Chrysler, Ford, Volkswagen, and Ferrari/Maserati.
Stephen Ramsay, ReMIT managing director said: “The opening of our training centre represents the first step in a new era. Every year, ReMIT manages training in the retail motor industry for 8,000 young people working in 5,000 businesses. Thanks to the centre we will be able to train learners in a state of the art facility, alongside some of the highest qualified technicians in the business.” His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent will formally open the centre.
Based in Imperial Way, Croydon, the centre is the first to be wholly owned and operated by ReMIT, the training body for the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI). More centres are to be established across the UK by ReMIT over the next few years.
