Peugeot and Mitsubishi are celebrating year-to-date sales successes outstripping overall market growth, and for the Japanese manufacturer giving it its strongest ever January-June result.

Mitsubishi enjoyed a 7.1% increase in year-to-date sales against an overall market improvement of 4.3%, giving it a 0.98% market share.

In June Mitsubishi's sales increased by 13.2% over the same month last year.

The year-to-date increase in commercial vehicles was 4.3%. Overall figures for cars and commercials show Mitsubishi with a 27% increase in sales for June and a year-to-date increase of 11%.

Peugeot is also celebrating an above-market car sales increase, of 7.2%. Its market share is now 8.5%, up from 8.3% at the same time last year. The 406 remains the UK's top selling diesel car.

Tod Evans, Peugeot managing director, said: "2000 was a record year for us and to be so far ahead of that after the first six months of 2001 is a remarkable achievement. I'm confident the second half will be equally exciting, as the new 307 comes into the picture."
