Alfa Romeo's 156 sports saloon has been voted Dealers' Choice Car of the Year 2000/01 in the upper medium category, by a sample of the UK's franchised motor dealers.

The Institute of Transport Management asked 1,000 of Britain's 6,244 franchised car dealers to vote for their favourite vehicle among competitor brands. Alfa 156 was their choice in class.

An Alfa spokesman said: "This latest recognition by retail dealers is all the more notable as the Alfa 156 received the accolade from a cross-section of franchises other than Alfa's own."
