Dealers are increasingly using the internet to source nearly new vehicles, but remain reluctant to purchase online, according to Greenhous Remarketing Services.

Its survey revealed that dealers are wary of the condition of vehicles sold over the internet. They also cite a lack of facilities to negotiate a deal and the feeling that there was no comeback in case of problems as deterrents to online retailing.

However, as a communication channel, dealers felt the internet was a complementary addition to the fax and phone as a way to locate stock.

Mike Pilkington, GRS sales and marketing director, said: “Our research confirms our decision to launch our website as a stock locator, rather than an e-commerce site.”
