Toyota has unveiled an all-new Land Cruiser that adopts a rugged new look to emphasise its durability and off-road capability.

The retro styling is inspired by Toyota's historic Land Cruiser models and follows a trend set by the Land Rover Defender - a key rival.

The new Land Cruiser uses a body-on-frame structure to maximise its off-road capability. The new frame is 50% more rigid and the combined body and frame rigidity is greater by 30%. Toyota says these increases contribute to improved responsiveness, handling and ride comfort. Basic suspension performance has also been enhanced, notably to help secure increased wheel articulation – a key factor in off-road driving capability.

A new electric power steering system and disconnecting anti-roll bars - a first for Toyota - provide greater drivability on rough surfaces.
