Waylands Automotive is days away from doubling its MG Motor UK representation with the opening of a new dealership site in Newbury.

Set to open on the town’s Newbury Motor Park, on August 15, the new facility will add to the AM Award-winning retail group’s existing MG dealership location at Cumnor Hill, Oxford.

MG Newbury will be the ninth new MG dealership announcement this year and follows signs of the brand’s further potential for growth with the recent unveiling of the brand’s new MG4 electric vehicle (EV).

Commenting on the latest dealership addition to the AM Awards’ three times Dealer Group of the Year (up to 10 sites), Waylands chief executive John O’Hanlon said: “We are delighted to be expanding our MG presence into Newbury and Basingstoke."

O'Hanlon, a recent guest on the AM News Show podcast, added: “This is a fantastic market for the brand and its strategy of a full EV-focused range at market leading price points which is incredibly attractive, all accompanied with a full seven-year warranty.”

Waylands' new MG dealership opening will come just two months after it grew through the acquisition of Grovebury Cars’ Kia UK dealership in Bicester.

MG Motor’s commercial director Guy Pigounakis said: “We are delighted to join with Waylands as our partner for Newbury, a town which represents a great opportunity for a brand like MG and its ‘EV for everyone’ philosophy.

“This is a highly strategic appointment to our network, expanding our relationship with the multi-award winning Waylands Group with whom we share the same focus on exemplary service to our customers as we continue to expand our reputation for producing the best and best value EVs on the market today.”

Year-to-date MG’s registrations are up 75.9% at 28,149 units in a market down by 11.5% overall, Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) data revealed yesterday (August 4).

The result gives the Chinese-owned affordable EV specialist a market share of 3.08%.
